How to shape content for answer engines
Answer engines extract a passage rather than a page. To be extracted, put a 40 to 60 word complete answer directly beneath the question it answers, before any elaboration, and let the depth follow underneath.
Put the answer first
Most web writing builds to its point. Answer engines are looking for the point.
A page that opens with context, narrows through background, and states the answer in paragraph five gives an extractor nothing convenient to take. Invert it: the question as a heading, the complete answer immediately underneath, then the reasoning for whoever wants it.
Make each answer survive removal
The test is simple. Cut the paragraph out, paste it somewhere with no surrounding context, and read it. If it still makes a clear, accurate claim, it is extractable. If it depends on the sentence before it, rewrite it.
Pronouns are the usual culprit. “It typically takes two weeks” is useless alone. “A technical SEO audit typically takes two weeks” survives.
Structure the rest for scanning
Tables and lists get lifted preferentially for comparative content, because the relationships are explicit rather than implied by prose. If you are comparing options, use a table. If you are describing a sequence, use an ordered list.
What this costs you
Answer-first writing is less elegant than a well-built argument. You are trading some rhetorical satisfaction for being the source that gets quoted. For a commercial site that is an easy trade; for an essay it may not be.

How long should an answer block be?
Roughly 40 to 60 words. Shorter tends to lack enough context to stand alone once it is separated from your page; longer gets truncated at an arbitrary point, which often cuts the qualifier that made the claim accurate. Write it as though it will be read with nothing else around it, because it will be.
Does FAQ schema still help?
It helps engines locate question and answer pairs unambiguously, which is worth the small effort. It does not make a weak answer strong. Schema describes structure; the extraction still depends on whether the answer text is genuinely self-contained.
